Kallithea

Just outside Konitsa, at the northwestern foot of the “Tsouka Koula” peak (at an altitude of 1,529 m) of Mount Tymfi, south of the river Aoos and east of Voidomatis river, is Kallithea. It is built next to the National Road of Kozani-Ioannina, 56 km North-Northwest of Ioannina and 8 km Southwest of Konitsa.

Going up to Kallithea, you are enchanted by the panoramic view to the plain of Konitsa and the peaks of Mount Nemertsika and Dousko.

The old name of the village was Goritsa. The name came from the union of four smaller regional settlements that do not exist today. More specifically, the settlements were those of Agios Konstantinos, Agios Georgios, Panagia and Amari.

Today, Kallithea is famous for its aromatic peaches and melons. By working hard the inhabitants of the village supply the wider area with the fruits of their place. They are also engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. If you visit the village in summer or early in autumn, do not hesitate to make a stop at the makeshift kiosks by the main road, to taste the delicious fresh fruit.

Finally, it is worth visiting the churches of the village. Leaving Kallithea, you must definitely visit the old stone church of Agios Constantinos and Eleni, next to the monastery of the Holy Cross which is under construction. In the village square, you will find the parish church of Agios Georgios and in the north you will see the cemetery church of Panagia. Also, it is worth visiting Agios Athanasios which is located on the border of Kleidonia – Kallithea as well as Agios Nikanoras which is located 200 meters away from the village.

Every year, on the 7th of August, the annual traditional festival of the village is organized.
