Melissopetra

Melissopetra is built at an altitude of 418m, on a smooth slope, near the right bank of the Aoos river. It is 2 km away from Bourazani and 14 km away from Konitsa.

The inhabitants of the village are mainly engaged in agriculture and this is due to the fertile plain and the several areas formed by the alluvium of the river Aoos.

The churches of the village stand out, especially the central church of Agios Georgios. The church is built in a prominent position, with a nice view to the Aoos river, the valley of Bourazani and the opposite slopes of Mount Dousko and Nemertsika. Next to the church, you will find the old school, which is made of stone. The chapel of Agia Paraskevi, which is located in the northeast of the settlement, is also worth a visit.

Near the village and at a distance of 3 km from Bourazani and 15 km from Konitsa, is the border station, the customs and the modern bridge of Mertziani. The border station, which has been operating since 2004, is the only station in the greater area of Konitsa that communicates with neighboring Albania.

At the point where the two banks of Sarandaporos river approach each other (between Melissopetra and Kalovrisi) are the ruins of the old bridge of Mertziani. Today, unfortunately, only the two pedestals survive from this bridge. During the Byzantine times, it is considered that Egnatia Odos passed through this area. It connected the Northern Epirus with Konitsa and the rest of Greece.

In the village there is a guest house which offers fine food, as well as a picturesque traditional cafe under the plane tree.

The village organizes its traditional festival on the day of the celebration of the church of Agia Paraskevi (July 26).
